Spencer Bluth was a 2006 intern at the John Locke Foundation and is a freshman at Stanford University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in economics. He was born in California but grew up in North Carolina, where he has spent the past 17 years. Spencer is interested in public policy, economic research, and the role of free markets in promoting prosperity and opportunity. In addition to writing for the North Carolina History Encyclopedia, he has written articles for the Carolina Journal.

Smith has earned recognition as one of the most important writers of southern and Appalachian literature. A recipient of many awards, she was inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame in 2009.
