Patrick earned his M.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his Ph.D. in History from the University of South Carolina. His publications include "The Columbians: A Nail In The Coffin Of Racism," Georgia Historical Quarterly (Summer 2001). He currently is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and teaches United States history and Western civilization at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, North Carolina.
